Taking it to the Next Level by David Haneke |
 |
MCA-I is on the grow again with new members
and
developments. Again, I want to thank a few of the
committee chairs for their tireless work:
Stevan Pope, and his committees to revise
the MCA-I website.
Clay Stubblefield and his committee in
establishing the road crew.
Skip Neeley and his work on the holiday
awards festival.
And Heidi Capriotti for her efforts with
the PSA community project.
I want to encourage the rest of you to take
advantage of your membership by getting involved on
a committee, or by getting to know another member
well enough to recommend them. Getting the most
from your membership requires more than attending
monthly meetings. It’s putting your time and energy
into building relationships and growing the
association.
MCA-I is collaborating with the AZ Department of
Commerce, and with National on some exciting
development for NAB. Check out the website www.mca-i.org for
recent updates.

Heidi Capriotti -- borrowed from “Create”
Magazine.
Check out the “Sex And The City” DVDs for
particularly useful Director’s Commentary.

memorable
stories of shooting in compost and learning to fly an
F-16 in a flight simulator!
- Sony Engineer, Bob Lofland, was
available
first-hand to present Sony’s new Anycast Station!
- Attendees learned about the Sony Anycast
Station, a portable, all-in-one studio solution for

- Submittal Forms were handed out so that
you can “Show Off Your Best Work” with an
evening
of Networking and Prizes at the November meeting.
Deadline on video submissions is October
20th,
2005.
- We learned that all of the
PSA’s
are finished
and many members contributed their talents to
better our community!
- Lots of Raffle Prizes were awarded,
including movie tickets & candy!
- You would have had a chance to win the
cash drawing! Brian Kohatsu - you would have

AMPEX VR-1000
"Of course, before we could make that first edit, we
needed the video tape. And in 1956 Ampex stepped
up with the VR-1000. While not the first Video Tape
Recorder (VTR), the VR-1000 was the first, practical,
broadcast quality recorder."
"The VR-1000 recorded a black and white picture
with
a mono audio channel on a 2" wide video tape. The
tape ran at a familiar and economical 15-inches per
second. The picture was recorded across the tape
from top to bottom using four heads on a rotating
drum (Quadraplex recording). This arrangement gives
an effective video recording speed of approximately
1560 inches per second."

THIS MONTH'S MEETING Tuesday, Oct. 25th, 2005 FILM IN ARIZONA |
|
|
|
Get the low-down on the state of film and television
production in Arizona from two who are “in the
know.” Barry Kluger and Andy Putman-
Nelson will share their perspectives on the
opportunities and challenges facing the Arizona
production industry today.
Barry Kluger, Co-Chair of the
Governor’s Commission on Film and
Television
In addition to the above appointment by Janet
Napolitano in February 2005, Barry is currently
Managing Partner of Kluger Media Group,
which provides corporate communications, crisis
management and public relations solutions to public
and private companies. His extensive media
management experiences include senior
communications executive positions at Prodigy
and
MTV Networks, and Executive in Charge of
Public
Relations at USA Network.
Andy Putman-Nelson,
Writer/Producer/Director
Regardless of what genre or medium he’s working in,
Andy believes that the quality of the story is what
makes a project great. His commitment to tell
stories that evoke emotions is what drives him to be
a successful producer.
He is currently the Executive Director and President
of the Arizona Screenwriters Association,
works as a
voiceover artist, and is very active in Arizona’s film
industry, working at bringing more production back to
the state. He is co-writing an animated feature for a
producer at LucasFilm; is co-writing two TV
pilots for
BAM Productions; is co-producing Brood
X, a
creature feature, and Secret Recipe, a spy
thriller,
with Starving Monkey Productions; and
